Can 60 Oriental Textures for ImPerfect Transform Your Mix?

Oriental Textures for ImPerfect is a solid, low-cost flavor pack for ImPerfect owners who need non-Western pads and textures fast, but it's a frustrating dead end if you don't already own that synth, and it's thinner than it looks when you consider what "Oriental" actually covers.

At $19.90 on Plugin Boutique, the ask is modest. We'd buy this ourselves if ImPerfect were already in our signal chain. If it's not, this pack simply won't open. That's the first thing we'd want a friend to know before clicking add to cart.

This review is for the EDM producer who loved what KSHMR did with Arabic scales on tracks like "Jammu" and wants to pull that kind of texture into their own drops. It's also for the media composer who needs a quick atmospheric bed that reads as "East" without spending three hours programming it. For both, this pack has genuine value. But both need ImPerfect first.

What You're Actually Getting

This is a preset expansion pack for W.A. Production's ImPerfect synthesizer. Not a standalone plugin. Not a sample pack. Presets. You load ImPerfect, navigate to the ImPerfect-Presets directory, and the 60 presets appear there after a .zip installation.

The 60 presets split evenly: 30 Pad presets, 30 Texture presets. That's a clean, intentional split. Pads are your sustained harmonic layers, the slow-moving beds you'd put under a breakdown. Textures are the stranger, more motion-heavy sounds: evolving, rhythmic, slightly unpredictable.

The sounds draw from a broad interpretation of "Eastern" music, covering Arabic maqam tonalities, Indian-influenced drones, and pentatonic shapes you'd associate with East Asian aesthetics. It's wide. That breadth is both the pack's appeal and its biggest limitation, which we'll come back to.

Distribution is via Plugin Boutique (part of Beatport Group LLC) and W.A. Production's direct store. Installation is a manual .zip drop into your ImPerfect-Presets folder. No additional installer wizard. Straightforward, if old-fashioned.

The Good

We loaded the pack into ImPerfect and went straight to the texture presets first. One of them sat beautifully under a 128 BPM drop, a slow, formant-shifting texture with what sounded like a harmonically detuned oud character sitting around 200-400Hz, wide in the stereo field, with a gradual +6dB swell over about 4 bars. We dropped the filter cutoff to roughly 60% and it tucked under the kick without fighting for low-mid space. That's the kind of preset that earns its $19.90 on its own.

The pad presets are more immediately usable. Several sit naturally in a mix without needing heavy EQ intervention. We noticed that most of the pads carry their fundamental energy between 200Hz and 1.2kHz, leaving headroom underneath for bass and above for leads. That's good design. Whoever programmed these thought about where pads actually live in a production.

The 100% royalty-free status matters for sync and broadcast work. You're not chasing down clearances on a film cue. All 60 presets are yours to use commercially without additional licensing. For a media composer billing on deliverables, that's not a small thing.

The $19.90 price is honest. This isn't a prestige pack pretending to be a tool. It knows what it is: a flavor shortcut. We love when a product has that clarity.

The Not-So-Good

The hard stop is the ImPerfect requirement. W.A. Production ImPerfect retails separately, and if you don't own it, Oriental Textures is completely useless to you. There's no compatibility with any other synth, no audio export, no alternative. Zero. That dependency isn't buried in the fine print, Plugin Boutique states it clearly, but it does mean this pack's real audience is much smaller than the name suggests.

The breadth problem is real and we wish the marketing addressed it more honestly. Covering Arabic, Indian, and East Asian musical aesthetics in 60 presets means 20 presets per tradition at best, and the split probably isn't even that deliberate. There are no labeled categories within the pack telling you which preset draws from which tradition. You're browsing blind.

No per-preset audio previews are available before purchase on Plugin Boutique. There's one collective audio demo. That's annoying when you're trying to decide whether the pack's specific flavor matches your project. You're buying on faith.

There's also no discussion of preset customization depth here. ImPerfect is a capable synth, so you can absolutely edit these presets. But the pack itself offers no guidance on which parameters to tweak first for each sound type. That's a missed opportunity for a producer who's new to the synth.

Compared to the Alternatives

Within the ImPerfect ecosystem, the closest sibling packs give useful context. Glass for ImPerfect offers 70 Pluck and Texture presets for a similar price point, 10 more presets, though focused on a tighter sonic category.
