Helgoboss Projects has announced the release of Jam Pad, a cross-platform application aimed at musicians who accumulate large numbers of recordings and struggle to find specific moments within them later. The app is available now as a free download for Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, and Linux (the last of these currently in early access).

Rather than treating recordings as simple audio files, Jam Pad lets users add markers, comments, ratings, and tags to specific passages, then collect those passages into playlists or reference them inside formatted notes. A visual heat map shows which sections of a recording have already been reviewed and which have not, helping users work through material more systematically. Recordings can be imported from local files, folders, handheld recorders, or cloud storage, and new recordings can be captured directly inside the app.

The app works without an account, keeping all data on the user’s own device by default. Wi-Fi sync between a user’s own devices is available as a one-time in-app purchase. A Pro subscription adds private cloud spaces for collaborative review, where bandmates, teachers, or other collaborators can share recordings, edit sheets, and exchange comments; only the space owner needs a paid plan.

Bluetooth remote control and audio feedback allow users to add markers or voice notes without looking at their phone, which could be useful during walking reviews or commutes. The free tier covers most core features, making it worth a look for anyone whose hard drive holds recordings they have largely forgotten about.
